Everything’s Coming Up Roses
This is a very upbeat song as I remember it from my youth, and as I read wikipedia I do recall Ethel Merman made it famous.
Here, more than you’d ever want to know about the song, “Everything’s Coming Up Roses:”

I’m just in a very “good place” these days — what’s the origin of that phrase anyway? OK, I’ll leave wikipedia alone for a minute. Ha, wikipedia had nada about “good place.”
I am not sure why, but yesterday when I went to Petsmart to buy cat food and cat litter I was drawn to the dog pens set up outside by the dog rescue organization, “PawMatch” or something along that order.
There was a little black dog curled up into a ball on a sunny, warm morning, acting like he was trying to sleep when all about him was barking and activity.
I asked the young woman who was attending the set-up if there was something wrong with him.
“He’s depressed. His owners had to go to a retirement home.”
As we talked she got him up and let him out of the fence so I could meet him.
Oh, Oh. He came from Beeville, TX, from a pet rescue there and he’s lost his home in August.
Wesley was his name, and still is, as he’s sitting somewhere in my house, probably the couch surveying the perimeter to see if any cats venture into his midst.
Yes, I didn’t think I ever wanted to get another dog after losing Toby in July of 2006, but somehow Wesley is my dog. I had kept Toby’s collar (too big) and one Toby’s beds (too hard) so perhaps I knew deep down the day would come I would get another dog.
Or perhaps all this talk of the Obama daughters getting a dog to take to the White House dislodged something deep inside of me. The yearning for another dog.
I love my cats, and I think they will forgive me in time. Leo is already curious about Wesley and his sister, Gracie, had a good experience with Toby also, so I think they will give him a chance in a while.
Henry took it pretty well, too, and Gracie is more curious than outraged or hysterical. Winnie, makes a funny noise if in the garage when Wesley comes out to see him as if he thinks Wesley is going to do something evil to him. Winnie has been friends with a chiwawa pup of a friend of mine, but Toby was always barking at Winnie when he first showed up on the scene.
Time will tell.
Wesley went to the park and I managed to jog/walk once around until Wesley started jumping up and down asking to be picked up or petted or played with.
Then Wesley went on the “Meals-on-Wheels” route with me and waited in the car. See, dogs like to hang out and can go places and do things.
I do or say something, and Wesley cocks him head. I tried to give Wesley a bath this morning and it is definitely not his favorite thing to do.
He’s a little black with blonde around his face and legs wire-haired terrier like Toto in “The Wizard of Oz” only his ears haven’t been surgically altered to stick up.
I’ll post photos when I have some ready!
